Food and Emergency

Light of Life’s Food and Emergency Shelter, Samaritan Ministries, provides critical services to help meet immediate needs and start a relationship with men and women who need help. We are able to provide food, shelter and hope by offering opportunities for case management, long-term care and connections to other service providers.

Meal Ministry and Community Outreach

The Mission provides over 200,000 meals annually, including breakfast and dinner seven days a week. Staff cooks and volunteers work together to prepare and serve nutritious meals. Men, women and children from the community are welcome to receive these meals, in addition to the residents enrolled in our programs.

light-of-life-9724-1As a good neighbor, Light of Life also extends its meal ministry in a variety of ways. During the Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays, we continue our long-standing tradition of not only serving dinner on-site for extended hours, but also delivering meals to local senior care facilities. Staff and volunteer teams serve the meals and stay with the senior residence to provide friendship, music, worship and prayers.

Light of Life holds holiday activities outdoors–distributing warm clothing, hot chocolate and cookies to passersby. Praise and worship teams engage the public by offering their services under a heated tent, ensuring that all needy people in the community have access to hope and help.

In addition to the holiday events, picnics, barbecues and tailgate parties are organized to benefit the community at large, thanks to the generous efforts of partnering organizations.

Twenty-two* or more men who are homeless take comfort in Light of Life’s emergency overnight shelter on any given night. In addition to a safe place to sleep, men receive a morning and evening meal, bathing facilities, clean clothing, chapel services and the opportunity to receive case management.

Thanks to the generosity of caring partners, the Mission’s shelter guests are provided personal care products, warm clothing and other needed items.

(*The shelter has 34 beds—with eight set aside for the Housing and Employment Program.) When any of those beds become vacant, they are also used for emergency shelter.)

Chapel Ministry

Held both mornings and evenings on a daily basis, Light of Life’s Chapel Ministry delivers the Gospel of Christ to men and women in dire need of hope. Volunteer groups from dozens of partnering churches provide devotions, praise and worship at the start of each day and following dinner service.

In conjunction with Light of Life’s Meal Ministry, the chapel outreach offers a meaningful experience to guests from the community who hunger for more than a meal. Services are interactive, offering guests opportunities to engage in singing praises, prayer and accepting the Lord into their lives.
