CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Just as our testimonies can be used in powerful ways, your work experiences and areas of interest can be used to lead clients toward lasting, rewarding employment. The individuals in our community have a wide range of skills and training.

*Both daytime and evening hours available
TUTORING
Several of our clients are advancing their education by seeking their GED or by earning a postsecondary degree. You can help them reach their goals by providing individual tutoring in any of the following subjects: math, reading, writing, science and computer skills. Your encouragement and support can make a lasting difference in their journey!
*Both daytime and evening hours available. Tutoring typically occurs weekly for 60-90 minutes.
CREATIVE LEARNING
Learning to enjoy leisure time by exploring old and new interests is a vital part of leading a balanced life. Do you have a passion for a particular hobby or form of recreation? To get involved you could …
ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT
In order to provide a program that addresses our clients’ specific needs, it is necessary to assess their skills and knowledge. As a volunteer you can help by learning to administer the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). The TABE is a reliable, comprehensive academic assessment used by Light of Life to determine individual strengths and areas of need. An Education and Employment staff member will provide you with needed training and materials.
*Both daytime and evening hours available. Testing typically takes approximately two hours.
OFFICE ASSISTANCE
Serve in the E&E trenches by providing general office duties or preparation for various programs. Tasks may include;
MENTORING
When a man is 6-9 months into the program, we match him with a mentor from the community. A mentor spends at least four hours a month with the man he is matched with doing things like going out to coffee, talking on the phone, taking walks, etc. During the year there are outings arranged through Light of Life for the men and their mentors such as going to Pirates baseball games, bowling, etc. This is at least a one-year commitment with on-going support for mentors. Hours of availability are flexible. This is a great discipleship opportunity, and we expect your own heart will grow in the process of being involved as a mentor.
