Light of Life’s Samaritan Ministries provide critical points of entry for the poor, homeless and addicted seeking help for immediate needs. Through these channels, we not only offer food and shelter, but also provide opportunities for case management, long-term care and connections to other service providers.
Held both mornings and evenings on a daily basis, Light of Life’s Chapel Ministry delivers the Gospel of Christ to men and women in dire need of hope. Volunteer groups from dozens of partnering churches provide devotions at the start of each day and praise and worship services following dinner service.
In conjunction with Light of Life’s Meal Ministry, the chapel outreach offers a meaningful experience to guests from the community who hunger for more than a meal. Services are interactive, offering guests opportunities to engage in singing praises, prayer and accepting the Lord into their lives.
Twenty-two* or more homeless men take comfort in Light of Life’s emergency overnight shelter on any given night. In addition to a safe place to sleep, men receive a morning and evening meal, bathing facilities, clean clothing, chapel services and the opportunity to receive case management.
Thanks to the generosity of caring partners, the Mission’s shelter guests are provided personal care products, warm clothing and other needed items.
(*The shelter has 34 beds—with 12 set aside for the High Commitment Shelter Program. When any of those beds become vacant, they are also used for emergency shelter.)
Light of Life’s High Commitment Shelter (HCS) is a unique program designed to equip chronically homeless men to gain housing, employment and stability in their lives. With a capacity to serve up to 12 clients at a time, HCS addresses the needs of men who, for various reasons, are not suited for a year-long residential recovery program.
By committing to 90 days of case management, a homeless man enrolled in the HCS program receives sleeping quarters and personal storage in a private area of the men’s shelter.
During a man’s stay in HCS, Light of Life will provide him case management, educational resources and connections to critical services, such as housing, job, medical and other programs. By collaborating with the County jail’s Pod of Hope program, Light of Life also helps men released from prison transition back into society with a positive start.
The Mission provides over 92,000 meals annually, including breakfast and dinner seven days a week. Staff cooks and volunteers work together to prepare and serve nutritious meals. Men, women and children from the community are welcome to receive these meals, in addition to the residents enrolled in our programs.
As a good neighbor, Light of Life also extends its meal ministry in a variety of ways.
During the Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays, we continue our long-standing tradition of not only serving dinner on-site, but also delivering meals to local senior care facilities. Staff and volunteer teams provide friendship, music, worship and prayers to accompany the meal service.
Additionally, Light of Life holds holiday activities outdoors–distributing warm clothing, hot chocolate and cookies to passers-by. Praise and worship teams engage the public by offering their services under a heated tent, ensuring that all needy people in the community have access to hope and help.
In addition to the holiday events, picnics, barbecues and tailgate parties are organized to benefit of the community at-large, thanks to the generous efforts of partnering organizations.
